10:06 PM...............................................................................
Ok.
I think people have the misconception that being a cashier is easy.
I tell you now that it is not.
This is even more so if u are a cashier at a supermart like i am.
Let me illustrate my point.
Just for convenience sake. I shall limit my discussion to only oranges.
Firstly, there are 7 different types of oranges.
And as u all know, oranges do not have bar codes.
So, u'll have to rem the 4 digit code which is unique to each orange.
And when the costumer buys his oranges, u'll have to recognize the variety of the orange and key in the correct code which belongs to the orange.
And!
And!
The supermart sells their oranges either by quantity ( eg: 5 for $1.50) or by weight (eg: 110g for $2.25), this means that you'll have to remember which type of oranges to weigh and which type not to weigh.
So much for oranges.
And that's only oranges. A subset of fruits.
And you'll still have to remember codes for vegetables. Same thing. Which to weigh, which one to key into the machine.
Plus.
The supermart has promotions.
Spend above $15, u buy a item ( from a range of items) at a discounted price. Each item again, has its 4 digit code which you'll have to rem.
Buy above $50. Bla bla. Something bout $5 off with u wanna buy abalone.
Give one stamp with each $10 purchase. Costumer buy $8/$9 plus must ask them if they wanna "top up" to $10 plus so that they will get a stamp.
Cigarette and newspapers not entitled to any stamp giving.
Carpark coupon can redeem $0.50
Offer item which changes every Thursday
Buy two packets of rice get free bowl
Cold drinks must rem to scan another bar code to charge extra.
Stuff discount. 5% off.
Buy over 48 cans of drinks/3 cartons of packet drinks get free tissue.
And for some reason, pork products don't have bar codes. So must rem the 4 digits again. Think its 350005. oh. 5 digits.
Use cash/net/credit card or cash card madam?
This is all i remember for the 1st two days of work.
That's why i really respect the aunties working/ tutoring me now.
