I think that is a very very good business move. ( I'm not suggesting that Mattel is not at fault)
The last thing you want nowadays is to offend the Chinese.
I mean, just look at the size of the Chinese market. I don't think the company can afford to lose their Chinese costumers.
Also, apologizing makes the company seem responsible and trust-worthy. Just the thing you need to regain consumer faith.
Guess the whole thing is also political. But i'm not gg to go there.
